Debs is primarily a performance storyteller and an actor, and is one of the UK’s most exciting writer-performers, critically lauded both in the UK and internationally. Her work puts the poetic and the irreverent side by side and often mixes modern theatre forms with the intimacy and informality of storytelling.

Debs is in demand as a performer with theatre companies and festivals, musicians and artists all over the world. Her charisma and innovation has seen her perform for such prestigious companies and venues as the Royal Opera House, the Southbank Centre, Hay Festival, Shakespeare's Globe, The Lowry, the RSC and the BBC and many others. She also tours to non-theatre spaces and festivals; last year performing in front of an audience of 5,000 people at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in the US.

Her acclaimed collaborations with John Wright are redefining the shape of modern storytelling, and her work on adapting Shakespeare’s plays has founded a brand new strand of international storytelling work at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Her unique approach to performance, influenced as much by Gaulier as it is by Elizabethan daylight playing, is immediate, playful and always deeply felt. She is as at home in clown as she is in classical roles: in fact for her, the one informs the other. An experienced improviser and deviser, Debs’ performance style has been described as “shimmering” (BBC Radio 4), “electrifying” (Views from the Gods), and “Daniel Kitson meets Julie Walters” (Ruth E. Cockburn).

Winner of a Summerhall Award, a Shortlisted Finalist in both the OFFIES (OffWestEnd) and Standing Ovation Awards, twice voted one of the top five performers at the Towersey Festival (the only  theatre artist in its fifty year history ever to achieve this), and Storytelling Consultant at Shakespeare’s Globe, Debs is a performer of endless curiosity and depth.
